When my friends and I were 14, we had zines and read Sassy. Tavi Gevinson is totally taking this to the next level… Love it!

Kids Launch The Darndest Magazines of the Day: So apparently precocious style rookie Tavi Gevinson (who, you may enjoy being reminded, is only 14 years old) is starting a magazine with Jane Pratt, the founding editor of defunct cult teen magazine Sassy.
“Of course, it won’t be Sassy (or the rebirth of Sassy, or Sassy 2.0) and nor do we want it to be,” Gevinson writes on her blog. “For one, you can’t try to recreate something that good. For another, while I can read old issues of Sassy and relate, the world has changed a bit in the past 15 or so years, and that whole Internet thing happened, and this world calls for something different.”
Not-Sassy will have a “‘for the people, by the people’ kinda vibe,” Gevinson elaborates. “We want to find the best possible group of people for this project, and a wide range of ages, styles, etc.” That means you! Submission-resumes are currently being received through November 19th at MagazineSubmissionsAreFun@gmail.com.
“Exciting, right?”

Life-Altering Soap of the Day: Ji Woong Kim’s “Frugal Soap” is one of those brilliant concepts that is so simple and straightforward that you wonder what sort of hold Big Soap has on society that no one had the wherewithal to come up with it sooner.
Once the soap bar wears down to the appropriate size, insert the remainder into the concave top of the next bar, fusing the two, and saving yourself the hassle of having to soap up with an uncomfortably small nub.
Lather, rinse, repeat.

Art Project of the Day: Mark Grieve and Ilana Spector’s “Cyclisk” — a 65ft-tall, 10,000lbs. obelisk made out of ~340 bicycles (and 1 tricycle).
Funding for the piece was provided by Nissan as part of the city of Santa Rosa’s “1% for art,” which stipulates that 1% of budget for large-scale construction be allocated to public art (Nissan is in the process of building a $3.7 million dealership in Santa Rosa).
