IT’S YOU
IT’S ME
AGAINST AN ARMY OF ZOMBIES
falling right into yesterday.
last night, in the small hours of the morning, in the quiet solitude of insomnia, i thought about the past 14 halloweens. this time of year is heavy with ritual and my sense-memory works overtime. thoughts and feelings creep out of the wood work. intense flashes of memory linked to smelling woodsmoke in the evening or cigarettes in the cold morning. those first crisp bites of apple and the warmth of mulled cider conjuring ghost laughter to echo in my brain, echoing in places where people used to be. songs from old mix tapes popping up in my itunes playlists that are bittersweet nostalgic. i know just where i was each year when that track came up. some lyrics never really leave you. some people never really leave you.
lots of good memories. i am exactly where i’m supposed to be.
rock n roll is gonna keep me alive.

Trick or Treat
tonight: we are Jem and the Holograms, and the Misfits. I own a green wig, so I’mma be Pizzazz. if we’re really lucky, photos of this won’t make it onto the tubes.
so basically, we’re a bunch of “adults” representing our department at a work party, and we chose to dress up like punky 80s cartoon pop rockstars. the boys are already slightly horrified.
tomorrow will be useless.
